It was developed by World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and Web Hypertext Application Technology Working Group (WHATWG). These two decided to cooperate in 2006 and created a new version of HTML.

This version introduced with advanced built in features and it works with jQuery, Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), document object model (DOM), and JavaScript. It can work with latest versions of different web browsers such as Opera, Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Internet Explorer. It also works with various mobile systems like Android, Blackberry and iPhone. The ability of cross platform and device independent helps it here.

In HTML, there are codes, which are called tags. Developers use these tags to develop websites and use other tools like CSS, Java Script, jQuery etc. to add more features to their site. These tags are usually written on a text file. Various browsers read these tags and show the desired results by translating the text file into visible form. These tags should be written correctly or there will be an error on the HTML file. It also allows the browsers to load the site faster on any device.

In this version, they added new tags like <video>, <audio>, <section>, <nav>, <article> and <canvas>. There were also has new controls in form such as calendar, number, date, search, range, time, email and url. These new additions make it possible for a developer to make his website more responsive as well as beautiful. They can use various features like audio, movies, video, music, graphics, and animations. Error handling is also easier in this version than the earlier ones. Old browsers ignore HTML5’s constructs.

To use with JavaScript, they launched application-programming interfaces (APIs). In this version, users add CSS files, JavaScript and jQuery files with many new launched features. It makes the website more attractive as well as easy to use. With new options, sites are more flexible and this is the main reason of the popularity of HTML5.
